Jeremy Borison is a director and writer originally from Cleveland, Ohio now working in Los Angeles. His work explores the intersection of religion and sexuality and aims to create discourse through nuanced storytelling. His films have received grants from organizations including Micah Philanthropies, Aviv Foundation, and the Steven Spielberg supported Jewish Story Partners, for their efforts in creating discourse around LGBTQ inclusion in religious communities. Jeremy has been selected for various initiatives that explore art and religion, as an Asylum Arts Fellow, a writer for Imagination Productions, a fellow of the Start South art therapy program, and a Filmmaker in Residence for the Jewish Film Institute.
Jeremy received his B.A. from the University of Michigan for film production and directing, where his thesis film “Sense of Sound” screened internationally and was awarded the Arthur Miller Creative Arts Award. He then moved to Los Angeles where he worked as an assistant on shows at Fox, MTV, and Showtime and as an Associate Producer and Assistant Director on commercials and music videos for artists such as Chvrches, Ty Dolla $ign, and Tritonal, Jeremy began working as a Director for music and dance videos for local artists in Los Angeles, as well as directing narrative films that explore religious and queer identities. His short film, “Boxes,” premiered at the Cleveland International Film Festival, and won the Short of the Year award as well as the North Carolina Film Award.
He recently completed his debut feature film, ‘Unspoken,’ which follows a closeted teenager in a religious community. The film premiered at BFI Flare Festival in London and is now scrreening internationally. He is currently working on a documentary about the lawsuit between Yeshiva University and its Pride Alliance, regarding the Orthodox institution’s rejection of an LGTBQ club on campus.
